I finally took the first step in getting my LTC and signed up for a class. The instructor seemed knowledgeable and extremely level headed. I thought he did a great job at answering questions from a legal standpoint and his own personal ethical standpoint without forcing his beliefs on us.We started with the shooting portion. I'm not sure why, but I was shaking the whole time, I could feel my knees shaking and my sight was extremely shaky. Somehow, I managed decent groupings at the 5 yard and 7 yard portions. I feel like I completely missed a few shots at 15 yards, but my score indicated otherwise and I did pretty well from the scoring standpoint. However I'll be the first to admit that I need more training on how to shoot and plan on signing up for some classes on recoil management and rapid follow up shots. The lecture portion was pretty meh, but not due to the instructor. We started with the 4 rules of gun safety, various carry laws in Texas, when lethal force is justified, defending a third party, and state reciprocity.Conflict de-escalation and situational awareness wasn't really touched on. Maybe a brief slide or two for each. In hindsight, I understand why. I don't think the state of Texas requires any training for that in order to get an LTC and the range I went to had other classes in regards to self-defense, so it wouldn't be a wise business decision to have one service cannibalize another. Some other random thoughts I had.It was interesting to see that so many different types of people had signed up for the course. The TexasLawShield guy came off as a salesman and tried to use scare tactics to get people to sign up. I actually researched one of the cases he presented to us and he was totally full of shit. He claimed the shooter was justified in his shooting and that he didn't have to pay anything and got off free. Turns out the shooter was actually convicted and got 20 years. Any thoughts on TLS or any other legal services and if they're worth it?I hate to say this, but I was unnerved at the types of questions and people that were taking the class. I really wish there was a higher bar for receiving a license. The guy that sat next to me wore socks and sandals. I could smell his feet the entire class. That sucked.I really need more training. In closing, I was happy with the instruction and plan on getting a lot more training while I wait for my license to come in. via /r/CCW https://ift.tt/2LTjwfw
