Concerning news about my country so I have to learn some self defense

Sorry if this is stupid.So my country is going to release 50.000 violent criminals in the new year I feel worried about it so I came here for some advice. I'm 1.78 meters tall. I have a good amount of mass. I'm not really worried about a 1 on 1 fight with no weapons but these thugs always carry knives around them. What are some things I can do against someone with a knife except running(I'm very slow)?
