Ok so yes this is a non standard idea and theory crafting
And yes I know it doesn't pack the same punch(actually a slingshot can pack the same kinetic impact of bullet , I think the highest it can be compared to the 44 Magnum) or ease of point and bang as a fire arm
So let's think about how a slingshot could be carried for self defense , I'm thinking on the belt with an open clip like "holster" to easily remove the slingshot it self from the belts, with a small hook or notch that would hold the pouch and probably a preloaded peace of ammo, this all would easily hug to the belt line and would easily conceal under a shirt or jacket. Think like a the bands go across the front of your belt with the fork on your dominant shooting side (I'm left eye dominant so that would be my left side ) and the pouch on the opposite side
Reloading/ammo storage, either a standard drop pouch on the side or back pocket of the person , or some spring fed magazine that you would pinch a piece of ammo off.
Ammo types, copper coated lead balls would probably be the most common type of ammo because they're cheap and easy to produce along with being very size efficient for their mass. But short broadhead darts with a notch to hook into a pouch would also be a very effective option, with them being lighter and probably causing more lethal damage along with being able to use a preloaded dart on the belt as get off me option similar to modern self defense knives
Now is this a little bit of a silly idea? Yes one hundred percent , would it do about the same job as hand gun for most of what a handgun does day to day but a hell of a lot lighter yes (for most of us who conceal carry your gun just sits on your belt and does nothing thankfully) , would be it be about as a effective as gun, maybe???? Like with the dart it's a whole lot harder of a time doing stuff like moving or breathing with an arrow sticking out of you, and a shot per shot the the ball has the same impact as a bullet so if things are over in one shot a slingshot competes , but yes multiple shots a gun wins out on but this idea sent me down a rabbit whole a was not expecting be a decent idea
Will I ever carry one? No, would I make one as a gimmick and sell it to other people who aren't super good with the idea of a gun on them because xy or z yeah probably. The reason I don't like handguns is because semiautomatic ones seem way to bulky in my mind, and like the having something that's three pounds on you that you don't use on a regular basis kinda just gets the "autism" in me screaming
